In recent months, ChatGPT has been all over the news, with academics and researchers excited about its potential to assist them in their research efforts. ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI that uses artificial intelligence to generate human-like text responses, making it capable of engaging in natural language conversations and providing information or assistance on a wide range of topics. ChatGPT can also analyse vast amounts of data to identify patterns and trends that would be difficult or impossible for humans to see.
In a recent study, we used ChatGPT to develop a population pharmacokinetic model for standard half-life factor VIII (FVIII) concentrates in patients with haemophilia A. A population pharmacokinetic model is a mathematical tool that characterizes how a drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and eliminated within a group of individuals. The model was able to accurately predict in vivo drug concentrations, which could be used to help doctors select the optimal dose for each patient.
We also used ChatGPT to develop an interactive R Shiny application that can be used to interpret the model and select optimal doses to reach certain target FVIII levels. This application is particularly useful for researchers who are not familiar with programming in R.
Overall, this study shows that ChatGPT has the potential to be a valuable tool for researchers in pharmacometrics.
